The Peugeot Hokonui Fashion Design Awards celebrates its 20th anniversary this year on Saturday, July 26.

The awards' executive producer Heather Paterson says she is thrilled to achieve this milestone, making the awards the longest-running of their type in New Zealand.

The entries have come from an even geographical spread throughout the country, with strong support from Southland designers.

The standard of entries this year was exceptionally high with some stunning garments entered. To be selected for the final would be quite an achievement in itself, Mrs Paterson said.

A high-profile judging panel comprising Kate Sylvester, Rex Turnbull, Doris De Pont, James Dobson and Lisa Payne will have the difficult task of deciding who will take away this year's major prizes.

A special feature this year will be some past winners' garments being shown on the catwalk on the evenings of July 26 and 27.

Mrs Paterson said the organisers had been able to source about two-thirds of those garments and was also pleased several judges from past panels were coming to attend the awards.

The huge task of unpacking and cataloguing the entries had been completed as had auditioning models and fitting garments.

Choreographer of the show for the past three years Michelle Nimo has moved to Melbourne but is returning to ensure the choreography of the show is up to its usual high standard.

While tickets for Saturday night's Gala Evening have sold out, tickets for the Friday evening's Strictly Design show are available from Peter Cairns Music in Gore.

An addition to the Peugeot Hokonui Fashion Design Awards this year will be a brunch function at the Scenic Circle Croydon Hotel. Guest speaker will be judging panel member Annah Stretton. She has her own successful fashion label, is the editor of Her magazine and is a highly respected businesswoman and business mentor.

The brunch will be held at the Scenic Circle Croydon Lodge Hotel on Sunday, July 27 at 10.30am.
