The Invercargill City Council meeting about the independent evaluation review for the Department of Internal Affairs was cancelled.

The cancellation was due to a family bereavement, a council spokeswoman said yesterday.

An Invercargill City Council extraordinary meeting was called for independent evaluator Richard Thomson and council independent governance adviser Bruce Robertson to brief councillors on their review of the council’s governance.

The pair were called in after the Department of Internal Affairs launched an investigation in August in response to concerns raised about the performance of elected representatives.

A new date for the meeting will be set.
