The new Athol fire station will be officially opened tomorrow.
The $1.6million station will be opened by Internal Affairs Minister Jan Tinetti.
She will be accompanied by Fire and Emergency New Zealand board chairwoman Rebecca Keoghan.
The funds for the upgrade came from the Government’s ‘‘shovel ready’’ project fund, which contributed $1.4million, while Fire and Emergency New Zealand added the extra $200,000.
The old building was only 80sqm, while the new building covers more than 300sqm.
The opening ceremony will start at 1pm.
