Plea for witnesses after serious Southland crash

Police are seeking witnesses after a serious crash near Invercargill last night left five people injured, one seriously.

Wyndham and Mataura Police want to speak with anyone who may have seen the crash between a van and car about 6.50pm on the Edendale Woodlands Highway (SH1), near Edendale.

The cars had collided due to ice, and there was heavy snow in the area, a police spokeswoman said.

Five people were injured — one person had minor injuries, three people had moderate injuries and one person had serious injuries, she said.

Fire crews and St John were also in attendance.

  • Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Police on 105.
