A shallow, magnitude 4.4 earthquake has struck near Milford Sound, GNS Science reports.
The tremor was detected at 8:48pm at a depth of 5km.
It was centred 10 km north-west of Milford Sound, and was rated 6 for Mercalli Intensity - the power with which it was felt on the Earth's surface.
