Police are searching for an "unpredictable" man linked to a shooting in Invercargill last weekend.

A 52-year-old man remains in Southland Hospital after the incident in Kelvin St on Saturday, June 30.

Detective Senior Sergeant Stu Harvey said today a warrant to arrest had been issued for Anthony Miles Tamaiti Watkins.

Watkins (24) is approximately 167cm in height and has connections to Invercargill, Dunedin and the Bay of Plenty.

Det Sen Sgt Harvey said Watkins could be unpredictable, so caution should be taken if any member of the public see him or have dealings with him.

He said the victim was "a completely innocent party in this incident and he would like to maintain his privacy in regards to the assault".

Det Snr Sgt Harvey said the man was grateful to members of the public who helped him at the time of the attack and medical staff.

Police were not seeking anyone else in relation to the shooting.

Anyone with any information on Watkins' whereabouts should contact police on 111, or through Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, he said.
