Serious injuries after motorbike crashes on beach

One person has suffered serious injuries in a motorbike crash on Oreti Beach in Invercargill today.

Police were called to the scene, near the end of Ferry Rd, at about 5.20pm.

A St John spokeswoman said they attended the scene and transported a man with serious injuries to hospital.

Oreti Beach is known as one the few remaining beaches in New Zealand on which the public can drive.

The beach was made famous by Burt Munro, who tested his famous Indian motorcycle on the sand.
