Spate of thefts in Invercargill

Recent burglaries in invercargill are a reminder for people to keep their property secure, police say.

Detective Matt Wyatt said farm buildings, fuel tanks and vehicles should be locked at night or when left unattended.

The thefts and vehicle break-ins have taken place over the last three weeks in the Invercargill area.

Targeted vehicles have been parked up driveways and on street fronts left unlocked, or with valuables left in plain sight, Det Wyatt said.

"If you’re are away from your house for any length of time, let your neighbours know so they can keep an eye on your property.

"Record the serial numbers of tools and valuable items, or mark these with an identifier that can be traced to your property.

"In addition, when you leave your vehicle, make sure it is locked and that you don't leave valuable items in it."

Police appealed to members of the public for any information about the thefts, or any other dishonesty offending.

They could contact the Invercargill Police Station on (03) 211-0400, or alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0880 555 111.
