Twelfth person arrested in Southern police operation

Southland Police have arrested a twelfth person as part of an attempt to disrupt criminal activity in the South.

Previous story:

This follows last week's search warrants in which 11 people were arrested in Gore, Queenstown, and Invercargill.

The 19-year-old man will appear in Invercargill District Court today on a warrant to arrest.

Police say they were targeting organised criminal networks and that drugs, firearms, cash and stolen property were also seized.

Three more search warrants were executed this morning in Gore and Invercargill, which were attended by the armed offenders squad and specialist search team members.

Inspector Mike Bowman said, "It's pleasing to have been able to make a dent in local organised crime groups and make offenders accountable for their criminal activities, not only through the criminal justice process but also look at rehabilitation opportunities as well.

"We want to reassure the community that we will continue to do this - it's of utmost priority to ensure our community is safe and feels safe."

This follows on from the arrests last week and continues our focus on holding accountable local criminal groups and wanted individuals.
