Stormy weather on way for South

MetService is warning of thunderstorms in the South today and tomorrow as a front moves up the country.

The forecaster says a wind change associated with the front could bring thunderstorms for eastern Otago, Clutha and Southland during the afternoon and evening.

As the front moves on to the North Island tomorrow, cold temperatures in the upper atmosphere are expected to bring further unstable conditions to parts of the South Island.

MetService says there is a "moderate risk" of thunderstorms about the Canterbury and North Otago coast from Oamaru to Banks Peninsula before dawn on Wednesday, while eastern Otago and Clutha could see more thunderstorms in the afternoon.
