Ignite Wanaka has beefed up its business events calendar as the town continues its economic recovery from Covid-19.

The chamber of commerce programme, announced on Friday, includes educational and networking events as part of a new events-led strategy.

There is also a stronger focus on partnerships, listening and supporting the local business community.

The events are a mix of free and paid fixtures.

Ignite Wanaka chairman Andrew Howard said the board spent several months reviewing the strategy to ensure the focus reflected the impact of Covid-19.

"It’s been important to sense-check what businesses’ needs are currently.

"Our top priority is to assist with the recovery and rebuild of our local economy and we see our focus on events as a positive way of enabling our businesses to get through this together, ultimately resulting in a stronger, more diversified economy," he said.

A new partnership programme has also been launched.

Ignite Wanaka executive officer Naomi Lindsay said the chamber would seek support from local businesses to deliver the events-led strategy.

There would be new opportunities, ranging from volunteering and training through to sponsorship, she said.

The programme would include existing regular workshops, the Wanaka Women in Business series, the annual Ignite Wanaka Business Awards and speed networking, she said.
