A Wanaka volunteer fire officer described the driver of a car who lost control on the Crown Range Rd early this afternoon as ``very lucky'' to have walked away from the accident.

Wanaka fire service station officer David Little said if the accident had happened an hour later`` the road would have had many more cars and been much busier with skiers heading back from the ski fields.''

The one vehicle accident happened about two kms south of the Crown Range summit heading towards Queenstown at about 2.30pm.

Station Officer Little said the female tourist lost control of her Mazda hire car and went into a culvert before the car rolled.

Queenstown police attended the accident and no-one was injured.
