Festival will bring more entertainment to streets

Acrobatics, theatre, dance and storytelling will highlight the street theatre programme at this year's Festival of Colour.

The street theatre day has been a highlight of the two-yearly festival and this year has been expanded to include events from next Monday and running throughout the festival.

"This year we've expanded the street theatre programme to bring the festival to everyone in Wanaka,'' festival director Philip Tremewan said.

"As well as our popular street theatre day, we are bringing more events to the community and giving everyone the chance to enjoy a wide range of performance at no cost.''

The street programme begins with Tree Dancer, featuring New Zealand's arboreal aerialist Chloe Loftus performing in the branches of a tree for three nights from next Monday, before the street theatre day gets under way on April 6.

Highlights include circus stunts at the Lake Wanaka Centre, children's storytelling at the Wanaka Library, an audio walk on the lake shore, and acrobatics in the town centre.

Art exhibitions, photography sessions and poetry will also be showcased.

The Festival of Colour takes place between April 2 and 7, and other events begin from this Saturday.
