First chondola tower up already

Construction of Cardrona Alpine Resort's chondola is ahead of schedule with the first of seven towers going up last week.

General manager Bridget Legnavsky said ''the only setback the builders have had to deal with so far was the amount of snow we had this summer''.

The combined lift of gondola cabins and chairs will replace the old McDougall's quad chair and will be New Zealand's first cabin-style lift on a ski area.

The chondola is expected to be installed in time for winter 2017 opening day on June 10.
