Hacking skills rewarded with $800 prize

Hacking into vulnerable websites and recovering data from other databases were two of the tasks a team from Wanaka’s Mount Aspiring College  had to complete at the New Zealand Cyber Security Challenge in Hamilton last week.

The year 13 team (from left) Sean Dickey (17), Tristin Weastell (18), and Samuel Sandri (17), all of Wanaka, came second in the schools category, winning $800 for their efforts.

The college team were among 150 teams from industry, universities, and schools who took part in the third annual Cyber Security Challenge, hosted by The University of Waikato.
