Hawea cavalcade plans taking shape

Goldfields Cavalcade organisers (from left) Terry Davis, longtime cavalcader Fran Partridge and Warren Hewson met in Hawea on Sunday to discuss the logistics of hosting the event at Hawea Domain in March 2019.

The event would provide an economic boost to the community, cavalcade co-ordinator Mr Davis said.

He said about 500 cavalcaders and their supporters would be coming to Hawea. While there are few facilities at the domain at present, Mr Davis and host town chairman Mr Hewson said plans were in place to have the necessary facilities installed.

They also said the cavalcade would provide an initial boost of funding that would go towards transforming the Hawea Domain into a community resource.

The 2018 cavalcade will be hosted by Owaka in early March.
