Injured guide awaits rescue

Rescuers have been unable to get to an injured guide on Mt Aspiring because of poor weather, but say his injuries are not severe and he is comfortable.

A police spokeswoman said someone had sustained non-life-threatening injuries in a rockfall on Mt Aspiring about lunchtime yesterday and needed to be rescued by helicopter.

Wanaka Land Search and Rescue chairman Bill Day said the male mountain guide was understood to have a lacerated and sprained leg.

Mr Day said the man was in a comfortable situation at Colin Todd Hut with plenty of food and water.
