Robyn Steel, a former partnership manager at the Porirua City Council and governance manager at the Christchurch City Council, has been appointed to the new role.
Governance, engagement and communications manager Naell CrosbyRoe said one of Ms Steel’s key priorities would be to ensure the board was ‘‘making the most of the opportunities its position provides’’.
Before last year’s local body elections, it was criticised for not being more active on issues affecting the Upper Clutha, including commercial developments.
Ms Steel is originally from South Otago and has a house in Wanaka. She plans to move permanently to Upper Clutha.
