Three overdue trampers sparked a search and rescue operation near Hawea yesterday.

The group, one female and two males, had planned to spend Saturday night at Pakituhi Hut on the Breast Hill track in the Hawea Conservation Park and were due to return on Sunday night.

Wanaka Search and Rescue launched a search mission after the group failed to return when they had planned to.

A police spokeswoman said they were located shortly after 9am yesterday and were unhurt.
