Sawmill tenant's lease terminated

Change is in the wind for the Luggate sawmill site, in Church Rd, but exactly what change and when buildings would go remains unclear.

Tenant Skip Johnston this week said his lease would be terminated in July and he was looking for a new site for the firewood business he operates from the mill.

While some of the sawmilling equipment is still on site, there has been little milling done there for several years.

The site is owned by the Alpine Group and managing director Jonathan Wallis said yesterday there were no plans for the site at present, but the mill was being decommissioned and eventually the buildings would be removed.
