The walls of Wanaka's new New World supermarket are rising in the commercial part of the new Three Parks subdivision.

Foodstuffs South Island general manager of property and development Roger Davidson told the Otago Daily Times this week construction was progressing ''as planned'' and the store would be open for trading in the fourth quarter of 2019, ''just in time for next summer''.

The 4353sqm store is reported to be twice the size of the existing Wanaka New World, and will have 219 car parks.

Asked about how many staff the new supermarket would require, a Foodstuffs spokeswoman said more information would be provided nearer the opening.
