Trampers hoping to use Wanaka’s Roys Peak track tomorrow  are being advised to check whether it has reopened.

The popular 16km return Department of Conservation track starts from a car park on the Mt Aspiring Rd 6km west of Wanaka.

It has been closed since October 1 for lambing and redevelopment of the car park.

Doc Central Otago senior ranger Annette Grieve said "at this stage the QLDC contractors are hoping to seal and mark the car park today (Friday) with the track reopening on Saturday but it will depend on the outcome of an engineer’s inspection."

She said people should check with the local visitor information centres (Doc or i-SITE) for an update.
