Builders starting work at 7am each day on the new watersports facility on the shores of Lake Wanaka have been appreciating the moment the sun comes up during a series of frosts.

The slab for the controversially-sited building has been completed and work is due to begin next week on the framing.

The $1.63million building will be used by kayakers, multisport athletes, rowers and swimmers.

Wanaka Watersports Facility Trust chairman Michael Sidey said yesterday he hoped it would be completed in October.
