Greymouth stepped back in time on Saturday as 110 vintage and classic cars of all makes and models, shapes and colours from around the top of the South Island and Wellington converged for the West Coast Vintage Car Club's Scenicland Coal Trail Rally.

The cars were marshalled into four groups, visiting the Blaketown and Cobden tipheads before fanning out to enjoy the scenery in the Grey Valley, with stopovers at Blackball, the Pike River Memorial at Atarau and Reefton, via the Mai Mai Valley.

The rally concluded on Saturday night with a celebratory function at Shantytown attended by 197 people.
