A hunter has fallen to his death near Whataroa on the West Coast.
Senior Sergeant Vicki Walker said the man was with another on the Gunn Ridge track when he slipped yesterday evening. He was killed in the fall.
His partner went for assistance and was rescued by police.
Police will try to recover the body today, Snr Sgt Walker said said.
The death has been referred to the coroner.
