Petrol bombs thrown at Greymouth house, car

Molotov cocktail-type devices were thrown at a dwelling and parked vehicle in Cobden, Greymouth, last night.

Police and the Cobden Volunteer Fire Brigade were called to McKane Place about 10.30pm after a resident had put out two small fires.

"The dwelling house at this location sustained no damage, and minor damage was caused to the parked vehicle," senior sergeant Paul Watson, of Greymouth police, said.

Police earlier told the Greymouth Star the fires were believed to be started by petrol bombs.

Residents in the Cobden area were today encouraged to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity immediately by dialling 111.
