Police launch operation after 'incident' on West Coast

West Coast police are keeping mum about the reasons for seeking information about an undisclosed "incident" early on Saturday at Victoria Park, in Westport.

Police issued a statement yesterday afternoon asking for anyone who might have information about an incident in Victoria Square in the early hours of Saturday to come forward.

"The incident is reported to have taken place between the hours of 2am and 5am."

Police launched 'Operation Hun' and are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time, and who may have noticed anything suspicious.

Acting senior sergeant Paul Watson, of Greymouth police, said at this point police did not want to discuss the nature of the incident due to the sensitivity of the inquiry.
