Work is progressing well on Farmlands' new building in Timaru.

Mal Scrymgeour, Farmlands general manager operations, said the building was expected to be completed on November 16.

''We are looking forward to welcoming shareholders into our new building when we open for business on November 26.''

The new building is being constructed on the corner of Timaru's North and Victoria Sts, where Farmlands' old premises stood. Temporary store premises are being used at Hilton Highway, Washdyke.

In March the old building, which was earthquake damaged and dated back to 1885, was demolished.

Owner of the land and new building under construction is local plumbing company owner, Shaun Breen.

''As with the majority of other Farmlands sites, we are leasing the property,'' Mr Scrymgeour said. ''We lease where feasible to reduce the cost to our co-operative.

''Once the new building is opened we will have the same level of staff, covering multiple services available through our co-operative. In addition to the Farmlands store, the Farmlands Real Estate team will also be operating from the same site.''
