Organisers are happy with the ''steady'' number of people who attended the Otago Field Days near the Palmerston Sale Yard last week.

Head of the organising committee Paul Mutch said the two-day event was successful and already plans were in place for next year's event.

''Year on year the Otago Field Days grows. It's very heartening to be approached by vendors throughout the day who say they have had a positive experience.

''They also say that often it's these smaller events which prove to be more productive for them than the bigger shows.''

The choice to run the event during a busier time of year on the farming and contracting calendar is a strategic move, Mr Mutch said.

''Those that have a need for something and the cash-flow for it are more likely to attend and make purchase decisions compared to a quieter time on the calendar when perhaps that cash-flow won't be there.''

Mr Mutch extended his thanks to the local volunteers who helped make the annual event such a success; ''every year everyone just knuckles down and gets the job done''.
