Clandeboye farmers Debbie and Alastair Millar are reaping the rewards of their labours.

The Millars were named the overall winners of the latest Temuka and Geraldine A&P Association gift lamb competition for their 20.9kg lamb.

They received the Longdowns trophy for their entry.

Competition co-convener Peter McCullough said the organisation was grateful to the people who donated to the cause, some of whom have been long-time contributors.

Mr and Mrs Millar were among those who have been regular gift lamb competition supporters, a concept which helps the association raise money for running costs.

This year's competition attracted 27 lambs.

The association also hosts gift calf and fleece competitions.

While most contributors will donate one animal, some give more than one - depending on their situation.

''This year one person didn't have a lamb to donate so they just donated some money instead. That's how good people are,'' Mr McCullough said.

''It's absolutely fantastic that they donate.

''It's really good for us. It helps us keep going and [allows us to] revive our show for the public.''

Donald McCullough won the event's gift fleece section, while Brent and Maryanne Phillips won the gift calf competition in the beef section and Ricky Stephens won the dairy section.
