An organic farmer and former IT recruitment consultant has announced her candidacy for the Wanaka ward in the local government elections.
Cherilyn Walthew (44), of Hawea, said she has been motivated to stand since the last election and if successful would work towards the Queenstown Lakes District Council implementing a blueprint for community consultation.
Ms Walthew moved to Wanaka with her family in 1975 and returned to Wanaka with her husband and two boys in 2010 after living overseas for 16 years.
She describes herself an ‘‘absolute local’’ and has Maori heritage through her mother which links her family back to Wanaka area since the 1848 census.
