World champion blade shearer Allan Oldfield is to receive a special welcome home.

Since winning the world title in France in July, Oldfield has been shearing in the Falkland Islands.

His mother, Jo Oldfield, said the whole community was invited to the Village Green in Geraldine on Sunday, October 6.

Shearing demonstrations would be held and Oldfield's trophies would be displayed.

His New Zealand team-mate Tony Dobbs, of Fairlie, would also be appearing.

The event starts at 2pm.

Meanwhile, entries have opened for the annual Waimate Shears on October 11 and 12. Two new events - novice shearing and women's shearing - have been added.
