The St Peter’s College under-13 boys’ rugby team have been recognised for their conduct on and off the field.

At the Global Games New Zealand Junior Rugby Festival held in Queenstown this month, the team were awarded the Global Games Team of the Festival.

The St Peter’s team are a mix of year 7 and 8 pupils and were coached by Edwin Wiegersma, Brendon White and Jamie Chittock and managed by Catherine Sayer.

Mrs Sayer said winning the Global Games Team of the Festival was a special experience for the team.

"The festival is the ultimate rugby tour, attracting teams from throughout the country and Australia.

"This award is the ultimate recognition of a team’s exceptional sportsmanship, teamwork and perseverance."

Points were awarded by the opposition teams, officials and Global Games management and were based on the team’s overall performance and conduct both on and off the field.

The team won all five of their games, beating College Rifles (Auckland) 42-0, the Christchurch Rugby Football Club 21-19, Amberley 40-0, Takapuna (Auckland) 17-7 and Basin (Wakatipu/Arrowtown) 7-0.

Two team members, Blake Sayer and Mason Newton, were named in the under-13 tournament team.
