A record and several impressive performances were on show in the throwing circle at the Caledonian Ground on Saturday.

The record came via Paralympian Caitlin Dore (Taieri), who claimed the national F37 senior women’s discus mark.

Dore, who already holds records in the F37 javelin and shot put, threw 20.46m to break the record by 26cm.

Taieri’s Jade Zaia put on strong showings in the shot put and discus.

The 19-year-old threw 47.14m in the discus, a mark which only two others in the under-20 age group have gone past this year.

He also won a battle with 17-year-old club-mate Hamish Mears in the shot put.

His throw of 13.50m was well behind his mark of 14.99m from last week, although it was enough to edge Mears by nearly 30cm.

Taieri’s Zharna Beattie was far too good in the women’s discus, winning by 15m with 36.31m, while also winning the under-18 shot put with 11.23m.

In the under-20 women’s hammer, Hill City-University’s  Gemma Millar threw 36.10m to edge Fiordland’s Dyani Shephard-Oates by 2cm.

On the track, Leith’s Nathan Hill claimed a convincing win in the 1500m, coming home in 4min 06.49sec, 9sec ahead of his competition.

Ariki’s Phil Napper’s 1500m time of 5min 18.56sec broke an Otago masters record, being 10sec faster than the previous men’s 65-59 mark set by Bill Kenny.

HCU’s Liam Wilson, who claimed two records last week, added to his collection with 13.75sec in the T37 100m. That was enough to break both the men’s under-16 and under-19 records.

Schuyler Orr (North Otago) ran 11.40sec to finish first in the 100m, while Fiona Centers (HCU) was the fastest woman in 12.54sec.

Cameron Miller edged Orr to claim the 200m race in 22.85sec, while Centers claimed the double in 25.05sec.

Ariki’s Shay Veitch claimed firsts in the 400m (53.05sec), long jump (6.36m) and triple jump (12.68m).

In the under-18 women’s 100m hurdles Taieri’s Tara McNally edged Ariki’s Sarah Langsbury by 0.11sec in 15.58sec.
