Official results for the Dunedin marathon should be with competitors early next week, after some long hours put in by the organisers.
The race last Sunday was marred by a technical meltdown, when reader mats failed to read transponders carried by every runner in the field as they crossed the finish line.
Coupled with a software package crashing, it meant organisers were left unable to give times to runners immediately.
There were back-up manual systems which they were working through to get the accurate times.
The old system whereby a combination of people would hold a stop watch at the finish line and record every runner manually when they came across the finish line was still used.
A video system was also carried out at the finish line so there were two back-up systems.
Race director Phil Coakes said the timing crew had worked long hours this week going through results manually and getting the times correct.
People had contacted the organisers over times and he hoped to have all the official results sent out to the competitors early next week.
Most people had been very understanding about what had happened and were willing to wait for the official times.
The organisers had checked the electronic system several times before the race last Sunday and it had worked perfectly, so its breakdown on race day was completely unexpected.
Coakes said some dedicated work had been done by many people since Sunday to get the times right.
A debriefing on the marathon would take place next month.
He said because of the need to have a prizegiving on Sunday after the race, there had been some unclaimed prizes and also prizes awarded to people who should not have received them.
There was no thought of cancelling the prizegiving.
Coakes said he was working to try to get prizes to the right athletes but that would take some time.
Overall, he felt the event had been a success and he had received some very good feedback on the race and the way it was organised.
