Otago's four medallists named in initial NZ team

Otago's four medallists from the Rio Paralympics have been included in the initial New Zealand team for the 2017 world championships.

Taieri athletes Anna Grimaldi, Holly Robinson, Jessica Hamill and Rory McSweeney join William Stedman and Keegan Pitcher in the team of six.

Grimaldi, a gold medallist in Rio, will compete in the T45/46/47 long jump.

Robinson, who won silver, will look to go one better in the F45/46 javelin.

Bronze medallists Rory McSweeney and Jessica Hamill will compete in the F42/43/44 javelin and F34 shot put respectively.

Paralympic star Liam Malone will not compete at the championships, as he recovers from a leg injury.

The championships are to be held at the London Olympic Stadium on July 14-23.

The final team will be confirmed on May 26.
