The first records of the new track and field season fell on Saturday at the Caledonian Ground.

Liam Wilson claimed two national para-records, while Cameron Moffitt continued his good year by breaking an Otago mark.

Taieri's Wilson (14) broke records in the T37 long jump and 200m.

His jump of 4.28m was 1cm further than both the 16-and-under and 19-and-under records.

He also ran 28.42sec in the 200m, smashing the previous record of 29.21sec in both age grades.

Hill City-University's (HCU) Moffitt ran 39.95sec to take 0.05sec off the men's 15-year-old 300m hurdles record.

It was a busy day for Moffitt, who also ran 15.02sec in the 100m hurdles among a handful of other events.

Elsewhere the men's 800m provided one of the day's closest races.

Less than a second separated the top three finishers, but it was HCU's William Scharpf who crossed the line first in 2min 0.81sec.

He was followed closely by Nathan Hill and Josh Hou.

In the 3000m Becky Greene put on a dominant performance of 9min 30.93sec to win that race.

Felix McDonald claimed the 100m in 11.62sec, edging Schuyler Orr by 0.07sec.

Christina Ashton was the fastest woman in 12.65sec, beating Fiona Centers who ran 12.83sec.

In the field, McDonald also had a win in the long jump with a distance of 6.80m, while Emma McKay won the women's competition with 5.09m.

Zharna Beattie threw 11.66m and 39.86m to take firsts in the shot put and discus respectively.

Paralympian Holly Robinson threw 39.99m in her first competition of the new season.
