Robinson named to Games team

Otago javelin thrower Holly Robinson has been selected in the New Zealand team for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The 22-year-old will compete in the F46 category of the para-javelin at next year's Games on the Gold Coast. 

Para-sports have been integrated into the main programme at next year's Games and 2018 will have the largest number of para-events in Commonwealth Games history.

The Taieri athlete has been prominent on the international stage for the javelin event over the past five years.

She won silver at last year's Rio Paralympics, while also claiming silver at the 2013 and 2017 world championships, as well as bronze in 2015.

She was excited to for the comptition and had medals on her radar.

“I'm super excited to be selected for the Commonwealth Games, it's something I've always aspired to," Robinson said.

"I've seen some really good progress this year with my throwing so I'm definitely looking at medals over there and I'm looking forward to doing my best and competing for my country."
