Sole Otago runner Burke helps NZ win in Australia

Wanaka runner Sammy Burke has helped the New Zealand team to victory at the Australian junior cross-country championships in Canberra.

Burke was the sole Otago runner at the championships at Stronlo Forest Park in Canberra.Burke put in good performance to finish sixth over the 4km course.

The placing put her in the top New Zealand relay team along with  Hannah O’Connor, of New Plymouth; Bridie Edwards, of Nelson; Ari Graham, of Christchurch; and Tessa Webb, of Feilding.

The relay team  not only won its 16-18 years category but also beat the under-20 girls as well as the 14-15 years grade.

This is the best result New Zealand has  had in the female division.
