Tayler in hospital but on improve

Former Commonwealth Games 10,000m champion Dick Tayler is in Rotorua Hospital after a medical incident over the weekend.

He was said yesterday to be making positive progress.

Tayler (68), who lives in Waikouaiti, was with a group of people in Rotorua on Sunday following the match between the British and Irish Lions and the Maori All Blacks the previous night.

Friend Paul Allison said Tayler was in a van when he had a medical incident on Sunday morning.

Medical assistance was quickly on the scene and Tayler was taken to Rotorua Hospital where he remains.

Allison said Tayler was in a stable condition in hospital. He was still undergoing tests to find out what exactly had happened to him.

Tayler was on a two-week tour following the Lions and had intended to go to the unveiling of the Colin Meads statue in Te Kuiti on Monday.

Allison said Tayler was was improving.

Tayler won the 10,000m at the 1974 Commonwealth Games in Christchurch. He also competed at the 1970 Commonwealth Games and 1972 Olympics.
