Coll rejoins Sharks for NBL season

The Southland Sharks have re-signed one of their regular locals.

Connor Coll rejoins the team for this year’s National Basketball League season, as he make his return to the court.

The 23-year-old forward landed awkwardly after a slam dunk attempt in a game last year and missed most of the season with a broken wrist.

Coll, who has also played for Dunedin’s St Kilda Saints in recent years, played eight games for the Sharks from 2017 to 2019.

Like all his Sharks’ team-mates, the chance to play under former Australian NBL head coach Rob Beveridge is making 2021 preparations even more intense.

Beveridge is just as keen to work with young talent like Coll.

‘‘It is always great to re-sign a local product like Connor Coll for this season.

‘‘Connor continues to improve every year and I look forward to helping him continue to develop as a player.

‘‘Connor has been around for a few years now with Southland and I look forward to seeing him grab this opportunity and show what he can do.’’

The Sharks open the season on the road in Nelson on Monday April 26. Their first home game is at Stadium Southland against the Taranaki Mountainairs on Thursday 29 April starting at 7.30pm.
