The Southern Hoiho are holding out to see whether tall timbers Ashten Prechtel and Zoe Richards will be fit for their game against the Whai in Queenstown tomorrow.
Richards (Achilles) has missed the last couple of games and Prechtel (concussion) missed the 102-61 loss against the Mainland Pouakai.
Both players trained this week, but coach Todd Marshall was waiting to see how they pulled up afterwards before making a call on whether they would take the court.
"It’s looking promising," Marshall said.
Captain Samara Gallaher took a heavy fall during the second period of Wednesday’s loss and sat out the rest of the game.
The decision on whether Gallaher, who has a history of concussion, was ready would be made either last night or this morning.
"We’re just making sure everything’s good there."
The Hoiho have had a relentless run in the past month, heading in to their fifth game in the past 13 days.
But they need to dust off their second loss of the season when they play their first game in Queenstown this year.
They struggled boxing out with limited size, losing the rebound count 55 to 36 against the Pouakai.
"We got overpowered really.
"If we’re still without size, we’ll have . . . [to] look for some ways we can improve in that area.
"If we’ve got a couple of players back that’ll certainly help, but we’ll just have to be prepared for either way.
"We sort of got smashed on the boards in that last game.
"We’ve got to do a better job there, that’s for sure."
