The Otago Nuggets will have to do without one of their stars later this month.

Nikau McCullough has been named in the 3x3 Tall Blacks squad for the World Cup.

McCullough is joined by Taranaki’s Tai Wynyard, Southland’s Dom Kelman-Poto and Franklin’s Jayden Bezzant in the squad.

Otago product Richie Rodger, who is now playing for Taranaki, was named as a reserve, as was Auckland’s Zac Easthope.

The team departs New Zealand on June 14, initially going to France to play in the Big Twelve 3x3 basketball tournament, before heading to Belgium for the World Cup from June 21-26.

McCullough has shown his ability to score in a variety of ways since joining the Nuggets this year.

He will be available for the Nuggets on Saturday, but will be away for their next two games.

McCullough was part of the New Zealand team that won the under-18 3x3 world title in 2015, alongside Wynyard, Nuggets-team mate Sam Timmins and Matt Freeman.

On the 3x3 Tall Ferns side, former Otago Gold Rush star Jillian Harmon has been named alongside Ella Fotu, Kalani Purcell and Tiarna Clarke.

Sharne Pupuke-Robati and Tayla Dalton were named as reserves.

The teams will be re-selected for the 3x3 Asia Cup and Commonwealth Games next month.
