NZ teams unbeaten

Both the Junior Tall Blacks and Junior Tall Ferns have started unbeaten at the Fiba under-18 Oceania championships.

The Junior Tall Blacks opened with a resounding 122-35 win over Samoa  and backed up with a 137-22 win over New Caledonia. Otago forward Josh Aitcheson had six points, two rebounds and two assists against Samoa and 11 points and five rebounds against New Caledonia. The team will advance to the semifinals as top qualifier from its group and looks set to run into a very strong Australian team in the final once again.

Meanwhile, the Junior Tall Ferns began with a 132-18 win over Guam, before beating New Caledonia 126-15. It clinched top spot in the pool with a 121-13 win over Papua New Guinea. Otago guard Nicole Ruske had nine points and three assists in the first game, adding a further 10 points and three rebounds in the second and 11 points, two rebounds and one assist in the third.
