Weather disrupts basketball tournament

Some games have been cancelled and the rest moved on the final day of the under-15 national basketball tournament in Dunedin.

Leaks had formed at the Edgar Centre last night after heavy rain had hit Dunedin, Basketball New Zealand said in a release via their Facebook page.

That had caused water to pool on several courts, making it unsafe to play on them.

Only the finals and third and fourth playoffs will go ahead today.

All four games have been transferred to the John McGlashan College gymnasium at the same scheduled times.

The boys final sees Hawke's Bay play Tasman at 5pm tonight, while Waikato and Waitakere West meet in the girls final.

Harbour and Tauranga will contest the girls third and fourth game at 10.45am, while Waitakere West and Auckland will play the boys game at 12.30pm.

There was limited seating at the gymnasium and Basketball New Zealand asked for only close friends and family of the players to attend the games.

Others may be turned away should the building reach capacity.
