A quality field will line up in the Dunedin Women's Classic Pairs at North East Valley Bowling Club over the next couple of days.

There are 48 players taking part in the tournament, which has always attracted high-quality fields.

Canadian squad member Jonna Cooper is competing, as well as Anne Dunwoodie, who has bowled to a high level in Scotland.

Other familiar names taking part are Lynn Rance and Christine Buchanan.

The competition, which is sponsored by Dunedin Casino, involves four sections each consisting of four teams which play round robin.

The round robin starts this morning and will continue throughout the day. The quarterfinals will start tomorrow morning and it is hoped the final will be played mid-afternoon tomorrow.

The event started last night when the names of the 48 bowlers were drawn out and put into pairs. They had been separated into leads and skips.

Last year's event was won by Janet Swallow, of Mosgiel RSA, and Angie Francis, of Southland. Both bowlers will return to the scene of their triumph.

Fine weather is expected for the next couple of days.

Good money is at stake, $2200 going to the overall winner of the event and $1100 to the runner-up.
