Prominent New Zealand sports administrator Kereyn Smith has been elected vice president of the Commonwealth Games Federation board.

Smith, chief executive of the New Zealand Olympic Committee, told delegates from 71 Commonwealth nations today that she is committed to integrity, impact and ambition.

"The transformation 2022 strategy and a refreshed Commonwealth Games movement is a focus for me," Smith said.

"I understand the importance of a strong connection between sport, events, athletes and community and the power of the Commonwealth Games to do this.

"I have a track record in organisational growth and development and will bring leadership and advocacy skills to support change within the movement."

Smith's appointment to the CGF executive board is effective immediately.
