Bates hits stunning 119 in England

Suzie Bates has bashed her way into the record books with a stunning twenty20 century in Derby earlier this week.

The White Ferns and Otago captain whacked an unbeaten 119 from 72 balls to help the Southern Vipers beat Loughborough Lightning by 46 runs in their Women's Super League fixture.

Bates' rapid century was the first time a player had reached the milestone in the tournament. It is also one of the highest twenty20 innings by a woman in the shortened format.

Australian Meg Lanning has the highest score in a women's twenty20 international. She scored 126 from 65 balls against Pakistan in 2014.

South African Shandre Fritz (116 not out v Netherlands in 2010) and West Indian Deandra Dottin (112 not out v South Africa 2010) are the only other players to post an international century in the format.

Bates' wonderful knock against Loughborough featured four sixes and 15 fours, although she had a life on 39 when Australian international Ellyse Perry put down a catch off her own bowling.

Having helped her side post a league record high total of 180 for two, the 29-year-old took three for 15 from three overs to help dismiss Loughborough for 134.
