Sir Ian Botham, who was a star of the game in the 1980s, will speak at the dinner. He is a popular speaker at events.
Botham’s head-to-head clashes with other match-winning all-rounders of the time such as Imran Khan, Kapil Dev and New Zealand’s Richard Hadlee, was a highlight of cricket in the 1980s.Botham will be in New Zealand as England is touring the country in the late summer.
Foundation events manager Steve Davie said having Botham on stage next year would complete an international line-up.
"Sir Ian is a marvellously entertaining speaker and to have secured his services is a real coup," Davie said.
"He will join [dancer] Li Cunxin . . . whose own story is one of intrigue and inspiration. Having Li and Sir Ian on the same stage in Dunedin will mean a night of amazing story-telling, emotion and laughter."
● It was incorrectly stated in an article in Wednesday’s newspaper that Dave Johnstone was a non-playing member of the 1950 Otago side which beat the Lions. He was a non-playing member of the 1959 side. The Otago side beat the Lions 26-8 in 1959, not 1960. A total of 20 former Otago players, who had beaten the Lions, attended the Club Otago function.
