Cricket: Lobb excels in bowling master class

Carisbrook-Dunedin 102/7 beat Kaikorai 101 by three wickets

A bowling master class helped Carisbrook-Dunedin secure its first win of the season in Dunedin senior cricket on Saturday.

Carisbrook-Dunedin beat defending champion Kaikorai by three wickets, after dismissing Kaikorai for just 101.

Batting first, Kaikorai had looked steady at 54 for two, but after Brayden Lindsay took the wicket of opener Matt Hunter (19), the team free-falled and lost its last eight wickets for 47 runs.

Carisbrook bowler Matt Lobb was the standout with the ball, taking wickets regularly to end with figures of three for 22 off his seven overs.

In reply, Carisbrook looked to have lost the opportunity for its first win, after falling to 42 for six.

However, Tony McEntyre (35) and Anthony Sewell (22) combined to bring the team home.

Green Island 267 beat Albion 102 by 165 runs

Green Island showed once again that it might be the top team in senior cricket, with another dominant performance.

A slow start saw Green Island at 97 for two after 29.4 overs.

However, Scott Simpson (88) and Ben Patston combined for a 78-run partnership as the team pushed on in dominant fashion.

Patston hit four sixes in his 56 (31 balls), helping his side score 170 runs off its final 20 overs.

After a dominant performance with the bat, Green Island veteran Mark Joyce then put on one of the best bowling performances all season to take five wickets and stifle the Albion batsmen.

Joyce finished with figures of five for 25 off 6.3 overs, as no Albion batsmen exceeded 20.

University-Grange 270 beat Taieri 182 by 88 runs

Michael Haddleton hit a powerful unbeaten 93 to help give University-Grange a big total and comfortably beat Taieri on Saturday.

Haddleton came in with his side at 60 for one and settled at the crease to give Grange some much-needed stability.

Despite his side losing three wickets for five runs in the middle of the innings, Jason Hynes (42) hit some big strokes to help finish the innings off.

Logan Smart bowled well for Taieri, taking four wickets for 40 runs.

Taieri must have known it was not going to be its day, after both openers fell for ducks.

Hynes bowled with great line and length to take four for 30 for University-Grange, with Jesse Simpson taking three for 38.

Taieri did get solid contributions from Corey Hart (52) and Simon Cromarty (49), but it was not enough as it was dismissed 88 runs short.

North East Valley had the bye.
